Our Story

Kilala company began as a conversation with my daughter. She often asked why it was so hard to find Filipino cultural references and designs in apparel. Like many Filipino-Americans, she wanted to share our heritage, culture and tropical lifestyle. The Philippines, after all, has an abundance of unspoiled tropical landscapes, rich history and deep cultural experiences.

We decided it was time to do our part and help bring Filipino culture to mainstream apparel, memorializing and celebrating what makes the Philippines special on a more ubiquitous medium.

And on that day, Kilala Co. was born.

Kilala Co. is a start-up apparel company whose mission is to use apparel to share a unique view into the tropical lifestyle, history and culture of the Philippines. On this medium, we will showcase the vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and rich heritage of our people. More than just fashion, we will create a material and emotional connection with our customers by sharing memories and stories behind our designs, which is the inspiration and motivation behind our brand.

"Kilala" is the Filipino word for "familiar". Through our clothing, we hope to encourage everyone to become more familiar with Filipino culture, appreciate its beauty, and support the preservation of experiences that are unique to the Philippines. 

We believe that fashion has the power to transcend borders and bring people from different backgrounds and cultures together. It also has the power to pass on knowledge and experiences from one generation to the next.
